Race Report by Barkley Abernethy
Due to weather conditions early on in the year, Round 3 of the Irish 1/8 Nationals had been washed out, so the re-run filled the reserve date. Quite a different story this time with 20c and the sun blazing in the Cork sky’s. CRCCC (Cork Radio Control Car Club) has a very fast flowing European style track where any small mistakes punish big time.
Qualification was nip and tuck with 4 drivers swapping places Gary Baird, Alan Scroggie, Barkley Abernethy, and Andrew McClean. Scroggie was to take TQ on a tie by 1 second on the final run.
The main final was just ‘Agamafest’ with 9/10 cars being Agama. Things were pretty tight at the start with the same 4 runners pulling away from the rest of the field. Barkley lost nearly 4 mins with an engine issue but re-joined for the last 20 minutes. Andrew McLean showed he has the pace, and looked really settled and controlled. Alan Scroggie followed Gary Baird home in a respectful and well driven 2nd place. With Gary Baird taking the win in both classes (E-Buggy as well), everything is bunched up for the final round in Navan (2 points separate 3 drivers) at the end of the month.
